Job Summary:
The Assistant Area Chef - Pastry is responsible for overseeing the operations of the bakeshop. This includes providing supervision and guidance to the bakeshop team, conducting technical training, and ensuring effective communication among team members. The Assistant Area Chef - Pastry collaborates with management from Banquets, Stewarding, Restaurants, and Chefs to ensure successful event execution. Additionally, this role contributes to menu development when needed, aiming to enhance the bakeshop offerings and elevate guest experiences. The Assistant Area Chef - Pastry also plays a part in managing scheduling, ordering, inventory, and ensuring food safety.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the bakeshop and guide team members to achieve optimal performance.
- Provide coaching, training, and ongoing support to team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Collaborate with management from Banquets, Stewarding, Restaurants, and Chefs to ensure seamless coordination and execution of events.
- Contribute to menu development by suggesting creative ideas and improvements, considering guest preferences and market trends.
- Assist in the management of scheduling to ensure adequate staffing levels and efficient coverage.
- Oversee ordering processes and maintain accurate inventory records to avoid shortages and reduce waste.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations, implementing necessary protocols and conducting regular inspections.
- Monitor the quality of baked goods, striving for excellence and promptly addressing any issues or concerns.
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends, new techniques, and innovative ingredients, incorporating them into the bakeshop operations where appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role as a Pastry Chef, Head Baker, or related position.
- Strong knowledge of pastry and baking techniques, including bread making, cake decorating, and dough preparation.
- Proficient in managing bakeshop operations, including scheduling, inventory management, and food safety.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively guide and motivate a team.
- Creativity and passion for pastry, demonstrated through innovative menu suggestions and well-executed baked goods.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support business operations.
